TROUP, Texas — Wearing their "Praying for Cooper" t-shirts, Troup ISD students and staff showed their support to Cooper Reid Friday morning as he continues to recover from a head injury during last week's football game.

The shirt features the school district's maroon and white colors along with a silhouette of a football player and Reid's football jersey number 22. The shirt also has the Bible verse Exodus 14:14, “The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still.”

This Friday night is the first game that the Troup team will play without Reid.

As of Friday afternoon, an update from the Facebook group providing information on Reid's recovery said he's going to require ventilation for some time and a tube will be placed into his trachea to help with breathing.

"Cooper is able to breathe over the vent. However, the doctor wants to control his CO2 levels (for optimal brain healing) and he uses the vent to do so. Cooper had a 'sedation vacation this morning' and once again, things went well," Mandi Braswell, an administrator of the Facebook group, said. "Thank you so much for your support and prayers."

Braswell also asked that people specifically pray for:

 1. Decrease in pressure on brain

 2. No infection (there is always a risk for infection)

 3. Wisdom for doctors and medical staff

 4. Peace and rest for Cooper, Susanne, Terry and rest of family.

"We are so overwhelmed with all of your love and prayers. We realize we seem like a broken clock, but please continue to pray for Cooper," Braswell said. "We know your prayers are what has carried us this far. We are so grateful and love you all."

Reid is also the treasurer for Troup Ag and a member of the school's bass fishing team.

On Saturday, the Troup fishing team will be participating in a tournament at Lake Palestine. The team will be selling barbecue to raise money for the Reid family. Boats will launch at the Deep End Ramp in Anderson County.

Red Dirt Hat Co. announced Friday the company will release a limited edition online exclusive Cooper Reid hat on Saturday. All proceeds will go toward the Reid family and medical costs.

People can purchase the hat at reddirthatco.com.
